6 Cozy Black-Owned Date Spots (Brooklyn Edition)

I love going on dates! I think it is a perfect way to have one-on-one time. Anytime is a good time for a date. But the best quality-time dates are at night, with candles, a cocktail and great music.

Cuddling up in corners and getting kissed up is my perfect date. Affection is a turn on, drinks are a bonus and wrapping it all in one is excellence.

I’m a true Brooklynite so my list contains mostly Brooklyn spots.  My apologies to those in the other New York City boroughs. I promise a trip to any of the spots listed will be well worth it.

I know Valentine’s Day is around the corner and you just may need a last-minute perfect spot to create some fun. We always struggle to pick a location for a date. To my New Yorkers or New York Visitors, here are Brooklyn’s top sexy and cozy bars/restaurants, all black-owned.

All these spots scream Let’s Get Acquainted Date Night or Let’s Get It On Tonight Date Night.

  • Sally Roots [195 Wyckoff Avenue, Brooklyn, New York 11237]
    • Deep in the heart of Bushwick and I fell in love once the menu had a cocktail involving Ting. Nothing short of a sexy environment, this night was full of Reggae and Dancehall. Candles everywhere, soft lighting, and large plants to remind you you need to go on vacation to the Islands. I danced and drank the night away in a corner with my date.
  • Bed-Vyne Brew [370 Tompkins Avenue, Brooklyn, New York 11216]
    • Cozy is a great way to describe this rustic and chic bar. It was dark inside, fun and warm. Because of the tight space, it allows you to stick close to your date and have a great time. Particularly, if you’re not a fan of beer, they have great selections of wine. At night, Bed-Vyne Brew turns into a party scene and I loved it for a date. It almost felt like a hidden gem because the spot is somewhat in the cut. Somehow, you forget where you are once you head inside.
  • Sweet Science [135 Graham Avenue, Brooklyn, New York 11206]
    • At first glance, especially in the evening, this spot looks romantic. Dim lighting that dimmed even more past a certain time. There was a soul food menu to match the retro vibes. The food was really good, and the bartenders were generous with the drinks. I enjoyed the laidback R&B music in the background, too. Additionally, to add more sugar to this spot, they have a speakeasy (Featherweight) tucked away for even more seclusion and sensuality. The booths and secluded sections of bar stools is perfect to get close.
  • Island to Island Brewery & Taproom [642 Rogers Avenue, Brooklyn, New York 11226]
    • What a lovely and naturalesque brewery! My date and I enjoyed the soft lighting, hospitality and freshly-made brews. The exposed brick gave us at-home relaxation. With Brooklyn’s shifty winter, we were unable to enjoy the backyard beer garden. However, it was cozy beside each other by the bar with the soft background music of Soca and Afrobeats. All brews are house-made right there in the brewery. Certainly try the Whiskey or Brew flights with your date and enjoy getting your night started here. In addition, Island to Island is also a juice bar, so this is a perfect spot for any type of day. The entire place is organic, full of love, and fresh.
  • Lovers Rock [419 Tompkins Ave, Brooklyn, New York 11216]
    • My first time going here was to hear old school reggae and I was impressed. Red lights line up the small bar, and keeps a calm and collect vibe. Also, a huge bonus goes for their well-made Island drinks. After about the second drink, I was very, very cozy with my date. Some benches in the corner and an outdoor patio guarantees time to wrap yourself around your partner. Above all, tealight candles everywhere plus the red lights created a sultry atmosphere. For this reason, I’m not sure which I favor most, the drinks, the music or the ambiance, but this spot lives up to its name.
  • Rustik Tavern [471 DeKalb Avenue, Brooklyn, New York 11205]
    • In case you want to eat before your bar crawl, Rustik Tavern is a great spot to start. This restaurant is blessed with a lovely bar and an even lovelier menu. Rustik Tavern offers a Date Night special, which is very enticing. Without breaking the bank, share an appetizer, a dessert and a bottle of wine with your date. Rustik lives up to its name. For example, their bookshelves and small couches made me feel at home. I enjoyed the desire to unwind here and enjoy my meal. The strong cocktails made it even better to relax in this cozy space.

I hope this list encourages you to go out tonight and get to know someone better than before.
